SKYKING TELESCOPIC ACCESS PLATFORM OPENS UP NEW BUSINESS AVENUES FOR FLETCHER CLEANING
Family-owned commercial cleaning company, Fletcher Cleaning Ltd is experiencing a significant increase in business since acquiring its first 179TJV telescopic access platform with jib boom from Market Harborough-based access equipment specialist, SkyKing.
Based in Worcester, Fletcher Cleaning, together with associate air purification company Fletch-Air, has been a leading provider of internal and external cleaning services for a wide range of blue chip organisations throughout the Midlands for the past 15 years.
The versatile 179TJV model which provides a flexible working height of 17 metres, 8.5 metre outreach, 200kgs optimum cage load capacity and continuous 360 degree basket rotation has been fitted to a 7.5 tonnes Mercedes 815 Atego chassis fitted with a bespoke designed 4m long GRP box body supplied by Mercedes-Benz truck dealership Mudie Bond.
Simon Fletcher, Director at Fletcher Cleaning comments: "We always hired access equipment in the past but about a year ago decided it would be more cost effective to operate our own equipment. We were very clear about the sort of truck and platform needed to meet our specific requirements and therefore approached two or three companies to see if they were able to meet our unique specification."
"We decided to go with SkyKing" he adds "as we liked the robustness of the 179TJV model which was light enough for a 7.5 tonnes vehicle yet provided an impressive 17m working height making it suitable for most of the jobs we undertake. We also liked the fact that it has a very simple hydraulics system so is less likely to breakdown and is simple to maintain."
SkyKing worked closely with Mudie Bond for the fitment of the box body which features side mounted, nearside rear and rear mounted sliding doors, a translucent roof, internal lighting and a rear opening for ladder stowage together with hand washing facilities provided by SkyKing.
"We decided on the box body" continues Simon Fletcher "as we undertake a great deal of highway work so it is ideal for transporting and providing secure storage of a wide range of equipment such as signs and cones. It also provides shelter for our employees when it rains."
For extra stability the platform has been fitted with four independently operated outriggers interlocked with the boom. It also incorporates a number of unusual features such as an integral water and electric feed via the boom to the cage. Electric sockets have been installed in the cage to enable the use of power tools, whilst a 10mm diameter water hose has been fitted to the boom to allow high-pressure washing. Additional features also include two spotlights fitted to the cage and a rotating amber beacon fitted to the roof of the body.
Since taking delivery of the new platform Simon Fletcher says that business is booming and that it has opened up numerous new opportunities resulting in the company recently winning a three-year contract to maintain buildings at both the Redditch and Bromsgrove campuses of North East Worcestershire College.
"We are exceptionally pleased with the new SkyKing platform," concludes Simon Fletcher.

Single Stage filtration unit
FletchAir Cleaning is helping keep the Safeway store in Bromsgrove clean and dust free, thanks to the recent installation of the Icleen Airmask.
This single stage filtration unit is the first of its kind to be available in the UK, and the membrane filter is simply installed to cover the air vents on the ceiling, preventing dust and bacteria from entering the store's environment.
FletchAir has successfully installed 48 of Icleen Airmask's to the Safeway store in Bromsgrove, resulting in an improved level of air quality, cleaner store surroundings and an environment that is more aesthetically pleasing.
"Since the Icleen Airmask's were fitted last June the appearance of the store has improved dramatically. We have benefited from cleaner ceiling tiles due to dust and dirt being trapped within the grid and not being able to discolour the surrounding tiles," explained Simon Wooley, Store Manager for Bromsgrove,
"Furthermore, there is also the cost saving element involded. The Icleen Airmask considerably reduced the amount of dust and residue that settles on the shelves and spines of the shelves, areas where dust build up is high, this in turn saves valuable cleaning time," he continued.

Clean and pure

It is said to be the world's first air purifier to use HiFlow technology to remove gas and odours using its pleated activated carbon layer.
